Vail Valley teacher promotes Kenyan nonprofit
Edwards, CO Colorado
EDWARDS, Colorado – New America School teacher Leah Teeters became involved with Kourage, a nonprofit working to reduce poverty in Kenya, as an offshoot of her own passions like human rights, development paradigms, sustainability, running, and biking.
Kourage unites all of those passions, including one of Teeter’s goals to educate her students to become global citizens.
Teeters believes in staying involved in causes that promote the well-being of a global community. She’s currently planning a cycling trip from Canada to the Mexican border, motivated by her desire to move toward a more sustainable world, she said.
Kourage reduces poverty by promoting sustainable, autonomous entrepreneurship. This enables Kenyans to become self sufficient, minimizing the need for foreign aid.
Teeters is hosting a fundraiser for the nonprofit tonight. She hopes her desire to promote human rights and sustainability will spread throughout the valley.
