VAIL VALLEY, Colorado – Teachers at Minturn Middle School will be traveling to Ireland, Scandinavia and Virginia this summer to bring back lessons for their students in Colorado’s Vail Valley.

Six teachers at the school received $26,500 from Expeditionary Learning Schools Outward Bound, a national nonprofit. Noel Falk and Stephanie Gallegos will travel to Ireland for 10 days. They’re planning to examine the foundations of American cultural stereotypes of the Irishman and the impact of the potato famine on immigration.

Kari Bangston and April Slagle will bike through Scandinavia for five weeks, exploring the connection between carbon emissions and climate change.

Tracy Teetaert and Cindy Cassidy will spend eight days in Virginia’s historic triangle – Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown – to study the origins of American independence.

Teachers will bring back photos, videos and journals to integrate into the school’s curriculum.
