Vail Valley towns go to the polls on Tuesday

VAIL VALLEY, Colorado – Voters in the Vail Valley towns of Eagle, Minturn and Red Cliff will go to the polls on Tuesday to fill seats on the boards that make big decisions about their towns.The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in each town’s town hall.In Eagle voters will elect three new town board members. Five candidates are running for the board. They are:• Incumbent Mikel “Pappy” Kerst – Kerst has served on the town board for the past four years. He is a battalion chief with the Eagle River Fire Protection District.• Scott Turnipseed – Turnipseed is and architect and he is the current chairman of the Eagle Planning and Zoning Commission.• Scot Webster – Webster is a local real estate agent and a member of the Eagle Planning and Zoning Commission.• Brandi Resa – Resa works as an accountant for a Gallegos Corporation.• Matt Mueller – Mueller is the manager at Eagle Ranch Wine and Spirits.For more voter information in Eagle, contact the town at 970-328-6354.Minturn residents will vote for mayor and for three council seats. The candidates for mayor are incumbent Hawkeye Flaherty and Town Councilman Jerry Bumgarner.The candidates for three council seats are incumbents Shelley Bellm and Aggie Martinez and challengers Earle Bidez (a former mayor), Frank Lorenti and Johnnie Rosenfeld.The winners of four seats on Red Cliff’s town board of trustees in Tuesday’s election are a foregone conclusion. Their terms, however, are not.Incumbent trustees Adam Williams, Amanda Armour and Garrett Scahill and challenger Valarie Blevins are seeking four-year terms. The three highest voters will get them. The candidate who finishes fourth in the voting will serve a two-year term.Blevins will replace Trustee Dan Wallace, who chose not to run for re-election.Mayor Ramon Montoya and Trustees Betty Sandoval and Duane Nelson all have two years left on their terms.Voting takes place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday at Red Cliff Town Hall.
