Vail Valley transportation options

The Vail Valley and Eagle County are popular in part because they’re accessible. Located on the I-70 corridor, it’s a 2-hour drive from Denver.

Despite being a small town the airport, located between Eagle and Gypsum, is open year-round. Vail/Eagle County Airport is served by six major U.S. carriers with connections worldwide. Full-sized jets, in addition to props, fly into the airport on a regular basis.

There are several ways to get around the county. The Eagle County bus system, known as ECO Transit, is the most cost-effective public transportation. ECO provides bus service 23.5 hours per day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. During the winter season, ECO Transit runs 179 trips daily with a total fleet of 34 buses, a staff of 29 year-round bus operators and 13 seasonal bus operators. Routes include Dotsero East (Dotsero to Gypsum, Vail/Eagle Airport, Eagle, Avon, and Vail), Dotsero West (Vail and Avon to Eagle, Vail/Eagle Airport, Gypsum, and Dotsero), Hwy. 6 East (Edwards to Avon, Eagle-Vail, and Vail), Hwy. 6 West (Vail to Eagle-Vail, Avon, and Edwards), Leadville (Leadville to Vail, Avon, and Beaver Creek and return), Minturn (Minturn to Avon and Minturn to Vail) and I-70 (Vail to Beaver Creek and back on I-70). In-town buses run continually from Lionshead to East Vail and Avon to Beaver Creek. For more information call ECO Transit at (970) 328-3520. Though there are bus stops throughout the valley, major hubs include the Vail Transportation Center, located on the top level of the Vail Parking Structure, and Avon Station, located across the street from the Westin.

Rental cars are available at the airport. Agencies include Alamo (800-Go-Alamo), Avis (800-331-1212), Budget (800-527-0700), Dollar (800-800-4000), Hertz (800-654-3131) and National (800-227-7368).

Transportation to and from the airport primarily is provided by Colorado Mountain Express (800-525-6363) and High Mountain Taxi (970-524-5555). Other options include Airlink Shuttle (970-845-7119, Avanti Limousine (970-477-1132), Elite Limousine Service (888-216-7328), Hummers of Vail (970-977-0028), Mountain Limousine (970-470-5503) and Vail Coach (970-477-0001.
