Vail Valley: View from the mountain pass

Vail Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado
Special to the Vail Daily/Rick Spitzer

VAIL, Colorado –The Vail Symposium takes an intimate look at the beautiful mountains that surround us this week. Local photographer, Rick Spitzer, will share his photos of mountain passes Wendesday night at the Singletree Community Center in Edwards at 5:30 p.m. The event is free to the public.

Spitzer’s recently released book entitled, “Colorado Mountain Passes: The State’s Most Accessible High-Country Roadways” will be the focus of the event. This complete full-color publication includes gorgeous panoramic images, detailed maps and directions and descriptions of the ecology, geology and history of each pass.

Spitzer’s camera lens has captured the American west for years. His latest book reminds us why we love our beautiful rocky mountains. All of us who either live here full time or visit the Vail Valley have navigated several passes but how well do we really know them?

“Sometimes when you frequent certain places you forget how special they really are,” said Carrie Marsh, executive director of the Vail Symposium. “Rick reminds us how lucky we are to be a part of this special state.”
