Vail Valley Voices: Gearing up for 2012
Vail, CO, Colorado
As I gear up for my second legislative session in early January, I’d like to thank my constituents in Eagle, Lake, and Summit counties who have met with me or contacted me via phone or email to discuss matters important to our mountain communities. This input is critical to my success in representing you, my constituents in House District 56!
The top three areas of concern that I have heard in my counties and throughout Colorado::
1. Creating and retaining permanent, good-paying jobs to strengthen the economy.
2. Balancing Colorado’s budget and working out how to deal with our structural imbalance issues.
3. Ensuring that every child gets a quality education to prepare them for the jobs of the 21st century.
You have sent me a strong message about the importance of collaboration in working toward effective solutions for these complicated issues.
One of my strengths has always been in working with others from diverse perspectives to reach agreement. You can count on me to use this strength to its best advantage to partner with my colleagues from both parties in the General Assembly to achieve outcomes that will benefit the people I serve.
The decennial reapportionment is not finalized, but I am doing significant outreach in Grand County because it may be included in my district.
As your state representative, I have the opportunity to sponsor five bills each legislative session.
For 2012, I am exploring legislation to address forest health and the bark beetle epidemic, to strengthen Colorado’s stalking laws, and to curb tobacco use by minors.
I need the input of my constituents to make sure that I’m on the right track with these and other matters of importance. I welcome your input at upcoming meetings and via phone or email. I am so fortunate to have this opportunity to represent you and look forward to continuing our work together to support the best interests of this beautiful part of Colorado.
I’ve been all over the district in the last few months, here are some photos I’d like to share with you:
