VAIL — Are you feeling a bit sad saying farewell to summer? Or perhaps you’re just looking to relax and unwind. Either way, the Vail Vitality Center has just the remedy.
Yoga teacher Morgan Flahive-Foro will lead a gentle, healing yin yoga workshop from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Yin yoga is a gentle form of yoga practice that targets the deep connective tissues of the body. It is similar to restorative yoga, where postures are practiced passively and mostly supported by props on the floor. Yin yoga quiets the nervous system and therefore reduces inflammation in the body, preventing illness and healing mild depression and anxiety, Flahive-Foro said.
“In both traditional Chinese medicine and ayurveda, the autumn season is associated with imbalances related to depression and anxiety,” she said. “This workshop will be especially supportive to anyone who experiences mild seasonal depression, anxiety or insomnia.”
While all yoga is healing, yin yoga is considered to be especially healing.
“Participants can expect to leave this workshop feeling peaceful,” she said. “They will practice some classical Yin postures and learn acupressure and breathing techniques that help to address the common mental-emotional agitations associated with autumn and winter.”
Flahive-Foro has practiced yoga for more than a decade. She has completed more than 500 hours of comprehensive yoga teacher training at Samadhi Center for Yoga and Meditation in Denver. She studies yin yoga under Mike Mitsuyuki Ninomiya and completed his Circular Flow Yin Yoga Teacher Training in 2015.
The cost for the workshop is $15 in advance or $20 day of. To register or learn more, visit http://www.vailvitalitycenter.com or call 970-476-7960.
