VAIL —The first snow has been spotted on mountaintops of the high country; it’s time to start preparing for ski and snowboard season. The Vail Vitality Center has created a preseason conditioning program designed for skiers and snowboarders who want to be ready for the snow.

The Vitality Center’s Winter Sports Conditioning program runs for six weeks, Oct. 10 through Nov. 18, incorporating training sessions for strength and conditioning and stretch and recovery, plus additional tips and techniques to prepare for the season, private coaching sessions, body composition reports and more.

The program is designed to pinpoint weak patterns of movement and strengthen those specific areas. Many people jump into programs with little or no understanding of how their body moves. A common consequence of training incorrectly or overtraining is that the body responds well during preseason preparation but is worn out from misuse and breaks down after the season begins.

Avoiding injury

“Our Winter Sports Conditioning program is all about sport-specific training to help prevent injuries in the long term,” said Katie Kukar, marketing manager for the Vail Vitality Center. “Not only will you become a better athlete, but you’ll also be more likely to avoid injury.”

The Vail Vitality Center’s specialized program teaches participants how to bring the body into balance, enabling participants to squeeze the most out of every day on the mountain. As part of the program, participants receive 30 strength and stretching sessions over a six-week period, three body composition reports, one Functional Movement Screening, discounted massages, nutritional guidelines, take-home programming, weekly emails and social media forums, discounted private coaching sessions and chances at weekly prizes and giveaways.

Early-bird pricing for this program is available through Friday and is $249 for members and $399 for nonmembers (which includes membership). From Saturday through Monday, Oct. 10, pricing is $299 for members and $429 for nonmembers (which includes membership).
