Vail will widen frontage roads starting next week
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado – The town of Vail will begin construction on or about April 18 to widen the South Frontage Road between Ford Park and Bald Mountain Road. The two-mile-long project will widen the roadway approximately 6 feet to provide 6 feet wide paved shoulders in each direction. In addition to the widened shoulders, the existing elevated path through the Bald Mountain underpass, which is showing significant deterioration, will be replaced with a concrete sidewalk.-
The project will improve safety for bikers and pedestrians along the busy roadway. The town intends to extend the widening to the East Vail exit by mid-summer of 2012.The work will require single-lane closures along the South Frontage Road for the duration of the project, and is anticipated to be complete by the end of July, well before the USA Pro Cycling Challenge comes to town Aug. 25. The work is being performed by Icon Inc. based in Avon.
