Vail: Winter Wonderland celebration at library
VAIL, Colorado “-The public library in Vail, Colorado will provide an afternoon of stories, games, crafts and face painting for children ages 6 to 11 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Friday in the community room of the Vail Library. Read Across America Day, sponsored by the National Education Association, took place March 2 in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Many schools celebrated that day with various Dr. Seuss related events. This is a follow up to Read Across America DAy and is Vail Library’s way to encourage kids to keep on reading throughout the week and throughout their lives.
“We will change topic and read stories about winter, which, in our town, are as plentiful as even Dr. Seuss stories,” said Cricket Pylman of the Vail Public Library. “Besides games and crafts, we have invited a special surprise face-painting artist. That way kids can wear their enthusiasm for winter on their faces.”
“In honor of the beautiful snowy winter, with Vail Mountain as a backdrop, we chose this Friday, when most local children are out of school, to invite children into the library to read, be read to, and to be creative. We’ll use any excuse to get children into the library,” said Lori Barnes, town librarian. “We make the activities enjoyable so young readers will come away from any of our events with at least one idea: that the library is a fun place to be. Learning the value of reading will naturally follow.”
Parents are welcome. The event is free. For more information, call Annie or Cricket at 970-479-2179.
