Vail: You can sign up for summer sports programs

VAIL, Colorado ” Registration for the Vail Recreation District’s youth summer sports camps in Vail, Colorado is underway. Camps include baseball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, ice hockey and lacrosse, plus sports training camps.

The camps offer young athletes the opportunity to learn new sports, develop new skills and refine existing skills. To learn more visit http://www.vailrec.com.

The VRD summer sports camp schedule is as follows:



June 7-9, Grades 2-12

Battle Mountain High School, Eagle-Vail



Colorado State University Head Volleyball Coach Tom Hilbert will lead participants in individual skills training during the three-day camp. Grades second through sixth will meet from 8 to 9:15 a.m. and grades seventh through twelfth will meet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $160 for grades seventh through twelfth and $60 for grades second through sixth.

June 8-12, Ages 6 and Older

Ford Park Athletic Fields



Participants will learn new baseball skills or refine existing skills during the five-day camp. Coached by Colorado State University Pueblo coach Stan Sanchez, the camp is great for all ability levels. Cost is $145 for a full day, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or $120 for a half day, 9 a.m. to noon. Children must be eight years or older to attend the full day session.

June 22-26, July 6-10 or July 27-31, Ages 4 to 6

Donovan Park Playing Field

An introductory program for young children, the Mini-Hawk camps will teach the basics of soccer, baseball and basketball. The five-day camp also will include unique games and fun activities for children. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon and costs $120.

June 22-26, Ages 6 -15

Ford Park Athletic Fields

Returning for its second year, experienced local coaches and athletes will lead participants in skills-based sessions including footwork, passing, receiving, touch, shooting and agility in an unique environment. Cost is $160 for a full day, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or $130 for a half day, 9 a.m. to noon. Children must be eight years or older to attend the full day session.

June 23-25, June 30-July 2, July 14-16, July 21-23 and Aug. 4-6, Ages 6-17

Vail Golf Club

Join Vail Golf Club staff for this unique junior golf program that teaches children life lessons through the game of golf. Camps take place from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday through Thursday. Cost is $85 per child, per session

July 13-17 or Aug. 10-14, Ages 4 and Older

Ford Park Athletic Fields

Professional coaches from England will teach participants ball skills, passing, shooting and offensive and defensive techniques. Cost is $168 for a full day, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; $133 for a half day, 9 a.m. to noon; or $98 for ages four to five for lessons from 9 to 10:30 a.m. during the July session. Children must be eight years or older to attend the full day session.

July 19-25, Ages 8 and Older

Dobson Ice Arena

Participants will be led by current U.S. women’s coach and 1980 Olympic team member Mark Johnson and his qualified staff for a week-long camp to improve on-ice skills and game playing techniques. Cost is $420 for Eagle County residents, $400 for Vail residents, $445 for outside guests or $175 for the goalie camp. Children must be eight years or older with one year of skating experience.

July 27-30, Ages 7 to 14

Ford Park Athletic Fields

The four-day lacrosse camp will lead participants in skill building activities designed to improve stick handling, cradling, passing, shooting and defensive skills. The coed program is a non-contact, skills-based camp. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $145. Rental equipment is available at an additional cost.

Aug. 3-6, Ages 6 and Older

Battle Mountain High School, Eagle-Vail

Participants will be coached by former NBA All-Star, All-Pro Sydney Moncrief and his award winning staff during this four-day camp, which will concentrate on learning new skills while building on the fundamentals of shooting, passing, dribbling, footwork and defense. Camp takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and costs $145.
