Vail’s Covered Bridge to close for up to 30 days
Board: Vail Town Council, Tuesday’s work session and evening meeting.
Present: Jenn Bruno, Greg Moffet, Ludwig Kurz, Margaret Rogers, Dave Chapin, Dale Bugby, Mayor Andy Daly.
Issue: Closing the Covered Bridge for repairs.
Who they talked to: Vail Public Works Department Director Greg Hall.
What they talked about: Hall told the council the Covered Bridge, the main link to Vail Village from the parking structure, will close for up to 30 days beginning April 20. The closure is necessary to repair rust on the girders beneath the bridge, as well as a water line under the structure.
Fliers about the closure have been distributed to businesses, and there will be signs advising alternate routes into the village. In addition, a handful of golf carts will be available to wheel guests into the village.
What’s next: Work.
Issue: A couple of Vail Golf Club issues.
Who they talked to: Vail Town Manager Stan Zemler, Vail Community Development Department Director George Ruther.
What they talked about: Zemler said a general contractor has been chosen for pre-construction and construction work. The final contracts aren’t finished, but Zemler said Evans Chaffee Construction of Avon was the top applicant from a field of firms that put in bids for the job.
Zemler said having a contractor involved in pre-construction planning should help keep cost estimates consistent.
The council also approved a resolution extending the construction deadline on the town’s original conditional use permit for the clubhouse.
Bugby argued that the extension isn’t warranted since the town is still involved in litigation with golf course neighbors.
How they voted: 6-1 to approve, with Bugby opposed.
What’s next: Construction work at the clubhouse is expected to begin in September.
