Vail’s season ending with winter storm

Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado – It seems fitting that Vail would close a record snow year with a winter storm.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning from 6 a.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. Monday.

Vail Mountain was buried under a record snowfall this season, more than 500 inches. The mountain closes Sunday. Beaver Creek closed last week.

Look for heavy snow beginning Saturday morning, the National Weather Service said.

Snow could accumulate up to 20 inches above 9,000 feet. The highest amounts are expected in the backcountry and on mountain passes, the weather service said.

Winds are expected to gust up to 30 mph and the snowy and slushy conditions could make roads icy and travel hazardous, the weather service said.
