VAIL, Colorado ” Music. Architecture. Nature. These are the inspiration for Brazilian jewelry designer Carla Amorim. A beautiful, extensive collection of Amorim’s 18k gold jewelry will be on display at The Squash Blossom in Vail Village, beginning today. Amorim creates jewelry that plays with unique textural finishes. Light dances and glitters across the surface of stones using a rainbow palette of precious gems indigenous to Brazil, set in brushed gold with diamonds. Her jewelry is at once both lively and seductive.

“I love the large, playful size of Carla’s pieces,” said Amy Logan, manager of The Squash Blossom. “Their boldness gives the jewelry a fun, creative look. I think they are a great representation of her background and the influence of Brazilian style. Though big and daring, her designs have a feminine feel and most earrings are lightweight.”

Amorim’s collection reflects her upbringing in Brazil, primarily the architecture of Oscar Niemeyer. Niemeyer designed Brazil’s capital. There he created a city where the lightness of the curved forms created spaces that transformed the architectural scheme into something that was a combination of modern harmony, grace and elegance. These elements play a key design role in many of Amorim’s necklaces, rings and earrings. This love of architecture is also blended with the flora and fauna of her homeland. She subtly references nature through flower, water and wind motifs. Falling Leaves, Moon Valley and Sugar Cane, all important pieces within her collections, point to the strong influence of Brazil’s natural beauty. Equally important to each Carla Amorim creation is the theme of music, specifically Bossa Nova ” the rhythm of Brazil itself. The animated and organic quality of her jewelry owes much to Brazil’s rich musical traditions.

Born in Brazil, Amorim recognized in herself a profound love of design as a small child. What started as a hobby, designing jewelry for friends and family, blossomed until she began her own designer line in 1994. The line has grown to include many different styled collections created in 18k yellow, white and rose gold.
