VAIL, Colorado ” Richard Steadman, the renowned Vail, Colorado, orthopedic surgeon, said he expects a full recovery after suffering from a serious blood clot in his lungs earlier this month.

“On the morning of Dec. 5, EMT’s rapid response to my wife’s 911 call and Dr. Larry Gall’s emergency ‘clot buster’ treatment no doubt saved my life,” Steadman said in an e-mail. “I will always be grateful to everyone who helped me and prayed for my recovery over the past weeks.”

Steadman said he hopes to return to seeing patients after the holidays at his Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail. He thanked doctors and staff at the Vail Valley Medical Center as well as emergency medical technicians for their care.

The doctor, who specializes in knee surgery, has treated some of the world’s most well-known athletes at the Vail clinic. He has pioneered numerous techniques for knee surgery and rehabilitation, including microfracture surgery.
