VAIL, Colorado – Cocktails are an American invention, and cinema has always been a great American pastime. On Monday night, Sweet Basil’s Bar Manager Rob Stoops will unite these two national loves into one event appropriately titled Favorite Movie Cocktails.

This is the fourth seminar in an eight-week cooking and entertainment series held at Sweet Basil called Love Our Locals.

Movies have brought many cocktails into the mainstream and made them some of the most popular drinks in the world. A self-proclaimed movie critic, Stoops will lead attendees through the process of making some movie cocktails like the James Bond “Vesper,” the white Russian from the Big Lebowski and that sexy pink drink – the Cosmopolitan.

“I can’t tell you how many times people would come up to the bar and ask me for ‘that drink from Sex in the City,” Stoops says. “The Cosmo is easy to make at home, but even easier to mess up. Drinks with a splash of this and a twist of that sometimes wind up with too much of everything.”

Interactive demonstrations and hands on practice will be some highlights Monday night. Stoops will also give some ideas and basics for attendees to create their own movie cocktails at home.

“When creating your own signature drink, I always say to start from an original recipe, then start tweaking and tasting.” Stoops says. “I also say the best cocktail is the one you don’t have to make yourself.”

Favorite Movie Cocktails will be held at Sweet Basil Monday from 5:30-7 p.m. The event costs $25 or attendees can select any four Love Our Locals events in the series for $80. There is a 25 person limit to all events and reservations are required.
