Vail’s Vonn joins equipment supplier Head
VIENNA – Two-time World Cup overall champion Lindsey Vonn, of Vail, signed a five-year deal with equipment supplier Head, the company said Monday.
The 24-year-old from Vail, Colo., successfully defended her overall title last season and won two gold medals at the world championships in February with French supplier Rossignol.
In May, Rossignol asked its skiers, who include Vonn, Ted Ligety and Jean-Baptiste Grange, to accept a 50 percent cut in their fixed salary in response to the economic downturn.
Austria-based Head’s sales have also decreased. The company reported a $22.5 million loss over the first half of 2009.
The Head women’s team also includes Vonn’s close friend Maria Riesch of Germany as well as Anja Paerson of Sweden.
