Van collides with ECO bus at Dowd Junction
EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado – Police say a man who fell asleep at the wheel of a minivan caused a wreck with a county bus Saturday night.
At about 11:23 p.m., Colorado State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 6 near Dowd Junction. A Pontiac passenger van, driven by Salvador Robles, 39, of Minturn, was traveling eastbound on Highway 6, according to the State Patrol.
Police say Robles had fallen asleep at the wheel and his vehicle crossed over the roadway centerline and collided its front driver side with the front driver side of a westbound ECO bus.
The bus was carrying about 45 passengers, none of whom were injured. Highway 6 was temporarily closed for the investigation and cleanup and was reopened at 12:27 a.m.
Robles, also not injured, was charged with careless driving and driving a vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
