Vendetta’s host benefit and Halloween party in one

Daily Staff Report

Vail – Instead of a goodie bag filled with candy corn and snickers bars, you could bring home a spa certificate, a bottle of wine or even a Christmas tree. Vendetta’s in Vail Village will be hosting a Halloween party and silent auction Saturday to support reconstruction of Gulfport, Miss., follwing the devestation caused by Hurricane Katrina.”The buzz is slowing down and this is something that is going to take years to recover from,” said Tina Tullus, event organizer. “We can’t donate once and feel that it is going to be finished.”The auction opens at 7 p.m. with a DJ and a costume contest. A donation is being requested at the door, which will be sent to Gulfport along with 100 percent of the auction proceeds and 10 percent of Vendetta’s sales for the evening. The best costume will win a gift certificate to Vendetta’s, compliments of owner John Brennan. Tullus created “Auction for Action” because she can’t donate money, but says she can contribute by organizing an event that can bring in money. “I decided to get the people that are able to donate involved. A lot of small businesses don’t have funds in the off season, so by donating services, it is a little more feasible.”Tullus says she has been really impressed with the positive response in the community, and that “most everyone has been more than generous and exited to donate.” “I feel like the initial response was huge and wonderful–even in this valley, but we need to continue helping.”Auction items range from children’s books from The Bookworm of Edwards, a massage from Avon Chiropractic, a chili sleigh dinner from Mega Mountain Magic and a hair design by the Four Seasons Hair Salon. CopyCopy donated 500 copies for flyers and bid sheets.”The people of this community have really stepped up to help, and I want to be one of them,” says Sara Woody, a manager at CopyCopy in Avon. “After the immediate catastrophe is over, you can’t forget that there is still so much to do.”Halloween benefit partyThe party will benefit the reconstruction of Gulfprt, Miss. 7 p.m. Vendetta’sDonations requested at doorCostume contest, drink specials, dancingVail, Colorado
