Information: This is the 11th annual Memorial Day ceremony by the Freedom Park Memorial Committee, and the local VFW Post.

EDWARDS — The Vail Valley’s annual Memorial Day ceremony is scheduled for Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Freedom Park in Edwards.

The 11th annual ceremony is being conducted by the Freedom Park Memorial Committee and VFW Post 10721. The program will include local dignitaries, veterans, the choir from Battle Mountain High School and members of Boy Scout troops 222 and 231.

The keynote speaker will be rabbi Joel Newman, a chaplain retired from the United States Navy.



HONORS

All veterans of the armed forces who have served our country, and especially to those from Eagle County who paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom will be honored. Also honored will be hometown emergency responders.

The program will also include recognition of the fragment of limestone from the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon, said Pat Hammon, one of the event organizers.

“That limestone is now installed at Memorial Park and symbolizes, for all of us, our continuing need for protection of our freedom and democracy,” she said.
