Victim of Boulder bat attack dies 8 years later
BOULDER, Colorado – A Boulder man who was beaten over the head with a baseball bat eight years ago has died in his sleep. Investigators want to know whether the effects of the beating caused Timothy Whalen’s death.
Whalen, 26, was beaten with a wooden bat in a feud over a keg of beer when he was 18. His attacker, Matthew Ryan Bauer, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in 2003.
After the attack, Whalen suffered seizures and complained of headaches. The Boulder County Coroner’s Office says it plans to investigate what caused Whalen’s death in his Longmont home last week. Foul play or suicide are not suspected.
