Victim of Summit County crash was wearing seat belt

SILVERTHORNE, Colorado ” The 62-year-old man from Craig who died in a collision Saturday morning on Colorado 9 north of Silverthorne has been identified as James L. Dyer.
He was wearing his seat belt but suffered massive chest injuries.
The man driving the Ford F-350 flatbed truck ” that spun across the highway before colliding with Dyer’s Chrysler minivan ” remains in custody at Summit County Jail.
Vincent Colmenero, 45, has applied for court-appointed legal counsel, according to Summit County Court division clerk Kari Novotny.
Colorado State Patrol recommended charges including careless driving causing death and driving without a license.
District Attorney Mark Hurlbert has until Friday to file charges against Colmenero, Novotny said.
The collision caused authorities to close the highway for nearly four and a half hours.
The CSP continues to investigate the cause of the crash, CSP spokesman Trooper Gilbert Mares said on Tuesday.
