VIDEO: Police misconduct investigation opened after footage of Leadville arrest surfaces
The District Attorney’s Office has opened an investigation into alleged police misconduct said to have occurred at 150 Highway 300 in Leadville on Feb. 24.
The investigation was opened on Monday upon receiving a video that was taken during an investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, according to a press release.
The video, which was posted to YouTube on Monday, shows police making an arrest inside a Leadville home. The video opens with a detainee, who at various points during the video says he is in pain, handcuffed and face down on the ground.
The woman filming the video repeatedly asks the officers to stop what they are doing and asks if they have a warrant, to which they do not respond. It could not be immediately confirmed whether or not they had a warrant.
At one point in the video, the man being arrested is briefly out of the frame but appears to resist an officer who is restraining him from above.
“The opening of an investigation is not a comment upon the actions of those involved but a typical step in matters involving use of force,” the DA’s office said in the release. “It is not believed that any serious injury resulted from the episode.”
