BEAVER CREEK — Winner of five Tony Awards and based on Miguel de Cervante’s book “Don Quixote,” “Man of La Mancha” is an interpretation that tells the story as a play within a play. It follows the man, Cervantes, as he awaits a hearing from the Spanish Inquisition. Cervantes and his co-prisoners act out a play about Don Quixote, through his fanciful adventures.
“Man of La Mancha” takes the daunting works of Cervante and compiles it into a meaningful play — distilling the story into a performance that leaves audiences both laughing and lost among its epoch story line. The classic weaves the dreamlike tale of Don Quixote and his quest for peace, goodness and beauty.
‘A perfect performance’
It also includes a musical score that brings a sense of life and character to the story, which is attributed to one of the five Tony Awards the show received.
“The cast and story make for a perfect performance,” said Kris Sabel, executive director of the Vilar Center. “And it is a great opportunity to see Broadway like you’ve never seen it before in other cities — up close in the unique setting of the VPAC.”
