More shops and restaurants are set to arrive in 2004 at the Village at Avon with the addition of a 30,000-square-foot retail building.

The developer, Traer Creek, LLC., won’t name the restaurants or retailers expected to set up shop in the building. The new building will be just west of the Wal-Mart Supercenter.

“We’re looking for typical service, food guys, restaurants,” said David Kautz of Traer Creek. “Just a very typical retail, tenant mix you see in a lot of centers around town.”

Traer Creek hopes to have the retail tenants in the building by Christmas.

The two-story building will have retail and restaurants on the first floor and office spaces on the second floor. Traer Creek also will build a surface-level parking lot.

The Village at Avon, located on 1,800 in what is now the eastern edge of Avon, is and will be Eagle County’s largest retail development. It will contain more than 600,000 square feet of retail space, half of which has already been built in the form of The Home Depot and Wal-Mart Supercenter. It will also contain up to 2,400 residential housing units, parkland, a cultural/events center and a school.

The development has met mixed reviews from the public. The developer attempted to change some of the original plans for the project by adding more homes and building commercial space on the north side of Interstate 70. Originally, only homes were going to be built there. The Avon Town Council said no to those changes last fall.

Traer Creek hopes to break ground on its latest project this summer, said Avon Planner Tambi Katieb.
