Village streetscape work begins in earnest

VAIL – Weekly progress meetings for the latest phase of the Vail Village streetscape project have started again. The meetings are held Thursdays at 9 a.m. at the Christiania Lodge.The meetings will be run by Scott Bluhm, the town’s on-site project coordinator. Advance questions can be forwarded to Bluhm by calling 376-5841.No work will take place during Oktoberfest weekend in the Village, Sept. 17-19. Projects over the next couple of weeks include:Lower Bridge StreetSept. 7-9: Final lift asphalt Sept. 9-11: Adjust manholes/ inletsSept. 11-14: Snowmelt tubing installationSept. 13-17: Paver installationWall Street/ Eaton PlazaSept. 7-9: Lay final lift asphalt (Eaton Plaza)Sept. 7-17: Excavate/ form three lower fountain pools (Wall Street)Sept. 7-17: Stone veneer/ boulder placement- restroom, stairsSept. 10: Install large play sculpture (Eaton Plaza)Sept. 7-10: Trench drain install – top of steps (Eaton Plaza)Sept. 16-17: Snowmelt tubing/ sand bed/ paver install (Eaton Plaza)Hanson Ranch RoadSept. 9-11: Remove existing Mill Creek CulvertSept. 13-14: Install waterlineSept. 14-17: Install box culvertGore Creek DriveWork scheduled to begin after OktoberfestGore/ Bridge Street IntersectionWork scheduled to begin after OktoberfestA construction kick-off barbecue is set for Sept. 17 at Covered Bridge Park. The event, for business and property owners, employees and construction workers involved in the Village Streetscape construction projects, will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event will be catered by Covered Bridge Coffee. Free tickets will be given to village businesses residents. To request tickets in advance, call the Vail community information office at 479-2115 or e-mail ssilver@vail.net.
