Vintage photos donated to Colorado Mountain College
Vail, CO Colorado
GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado –George and Patti Stranahan, who share a longtime interest in arts, philanthropy and education, have donated their collection of 80 vintage black-and-white photographs to Colorado Mountain College.
The collection includes shots by some of the most iconic names in 20th century photography, including Ansel Adams, Margaret Bourke-White, Lola Alvarez Bravo, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Edward Weston.
George Stranahan is an accomplished photographer who has known, or knows, many of the artists. He and his wife have said this permanent gift should be used to strengthen the college’s educational mission, and is to be widely available to Colorado Mountain College students and the various communities in the community college’s 12,000-square-mile service area.
An initial exhibit and opening reception of a significant portion of the collection will be held Aug. 7, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the CMC Center for Excellence in the Arts Gallery, 9th Street and Grand Avenue in Glenwood Springs. The photos will be on display from Aug. 3 through Sept. 24.
