BEAVER CREEK The reputation of The Vilar Center for the Arts is to provide the community with some of the best and greatest variety of entertainment in the valley. What many dont know is that the ticket price alone doesnt even come close to keeping the doors open on the beautiful theater. Its the individual donors and the corporations who give generously that maintain the quality of the artists and the polish on the brass railings.Off to the side of the theater is the May Gallery salo, named after donors Peter and Leni May. Its the lounge where patrons can mingle before concerts and during intermissions a special perk for their generosity to the theater. Last week, the staff of the Vilar Center hosted a special apres ski wine tasting for the patrons, who enjoyed a selection of wines from the Barolo region of Italy.Presented by Suzanne and Dan Hoffman of Dolce e Dani, the couple introduced Giuseppe Vajra of G.D. Vajra. Giuseppe educated the group on the wines of his vineyard founded by his mother and father.

Each wine was exquisite and unique, from the crisp and delightful Langhe Bianco, a Riesling that even the driest wine connoisseur would relish, to the full-bodied and elegant Barolo Albe. The wine is sold at Riverwalk Wine & Spirits and range from around $18 to $43 a bottle. The winemakers, unlike many in the industry, dont raise their prices when a spectacular year produces a particularly good wine.If youre not good to your faithful customers in the good vintages, you cant expect them to be there during the vintages that arent as good, said Vajra. The salon also may become a more active place in the future. Were looking to expand what we do in our Patrons Lounge, said Kris Sabel, vice president of Cultural Programming. Danny and Suzanne are patrons, so we thought it would be a nice thing to do.

Coming up at the Vilar Center for the Performing Arts are some world-class shows, including Jo Dee Messina, the opera Carmen, the Joe Goode Performance Troupe, The Moscow Chamber Orchestra and Pat Metheny with Brad Meldhau. Many shows are selling out, so go to and get your tickets now.
