Volunteer day scheduled at Eagle Valley High
GYPSUM -The 750 students who attend Eagle Valley High School will participate in Eagle County Volunteer Day on Wednesday. Starting at 8:30 a.m., students will bypass the classroom for the community for the largest one-day volunteer event the high school has ever seen.The community’s senior center, local elementary schools, town of Gypsum and Eagle, Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, fire stations, Colorado Department of Transportation, nonprofit organizations and the local recreation district will receive help from the volunteers.Tasks have been set up by a community leader at each location and the students will be briefed by the leaders on the tasks on May 11 in order to allow more volunteer hours the day of the event. Students will be working in gardens, painting, cleaning pools and ice rinks, picking up trash, staining decks, washing windows and porches and be role models for younger students for the entire day.The students will finish the day at 2 p.m. with a pep assembly at the high school and an ice cream social in which all of the community is invited to attend.Over 70 staff, parent and community volunteers will assist the students in a full day of volunteer work.
