The annual Barbara Treat Memorial Golf Tournament is Friday at the Cordillera Valley Course. The funds raised from this event will benefit the Family Learning Center, a non-denominational, nonprofit organization that has been serving the Vail Valley since 1999. The proceeds will help maintain affordable tuition and need-based scholarships for more than 150 children, ages 6 and under, who receive quality childcare and early childhood education.

Barbara Treat was known throughout the valley as a tireless and relentless volunteer and fundraiser for several nonprofit organizations. The Family Learning Center was fortunate to have her serve on the board of directors for four years.

“Barbara was a great mentor in fundraising,” said Cherie Paller, executive director of The Family Learning Center. “Nobody could organize an event better or drum up more community support.”

Cookie Flaum, who worked closely with Treat on many of her volunteer endeavors, said Barbara’s primary focus and passion was for causes that benefited children. It’s because of that passion that the Barbara Treat Foundation was established for children throughout the Vail Valley.
