VAIL — Vail Valley Medical Center’s Volunteer Corps recently celebrated its annual Volunteer Service Awards and Recognition Luncheon. In 2015, the approximately 100 active volunteers contributed over 7,500 hours in a variety of roles throughout the medical center’s numerous facilities in Eagle County.

“VVMC is so grateful for the ongoing support of our volunteers, who give tirelessly of their time, energy and compassion,” said Vail Valley Medical Center President and CEO Doris Kirchner. “With their smiles and helping hands, our treasured volunteers support VVMC’s mission to provide patient-centered care at our facilities in Gypsum, Edwards, Beaver Creek, Avon and Vail. They are an important part of the VVMC experience.”

Volunteers serve in a variety of capacities, including running Vail Valley Medical Center’s gift shop, greeting patients and guests, hosting fundraising events, supporting medical center staff and escorting patients to where they need to go within the facilities.

“The challenges put forth during the major construction at the medical center have only served to inspire our volunteers to find ways to go above and beyond in service to our patients, visitors and hospital staff,” said Nancy Berg, president of the Volunteer Corps.

Recognizing service

Anne Collins was named Volunteer of the Year for her years of service since 2004 at the Vail and Beaver Creek Emergency Departments, as well as at the Vail Valley Medical Center information desk. The Outstanding Service Award was given to Jeanne Chatterton for her generous donation of more than 2,000 hours since 2002 at the Shaw information desk.

In addition to recognizing the outstanding contributions of the volunteers, the Volunteer Corps presented a check in the amount of $40,000 to the Vail Valley Medical Center Foundation. Funds raised by the group benefit a variety of programs and equipment to benefit patients.
