Voters should approve taxes
Christine Scanlan, state representative House District 56
Recent debate coverage highlighted my and my opponent’s differing perspectives on TABOR (the Taxpayer Bill of Rights). Unfortunately, omitted from that coverage was my statement “I absolutely support going to taxpayers to (ask) to raise taxes.” This is the heart of TABOR and a value I wholeheartedly endorse.
My issue is with the unsuccessful mechanics of TABOR. To that end, I am endorsing Amendment 59, which will maintain a taxpayer’s right to vote on tax increases while untangling the contradictory mandates of TABOR and Amendment 23.
Thank you for this clarification.
