Walgreens aims for June opening in Dillon

DILLON, Colorado ” The still-empty Walgreens building on Dillon Ridge Road is tentatively set to open in June. The building ” near the City Market ” has been apparently completed for months, making locals wonder when the doors would finally open.

“A number of things can impact the open date, but for right now we’re aiming for June,” said Vivika Vergara, a media relations specialist with Walgreens, in an e-mail to Devin Granbery, Dillon’s town manager.

Granbery anticipates Walgreens to be great contributor for sales-tax collection in Dillon and said he’s excited to receive a firmer opening date.

“It would be additional revenue for Dillon,” Granbery said. “We did not budget for additional revenue from Walgreens in the current budget. The sooner it opens, the better for us. … I’ve heard that Walgreens has been holding back on opening stores nationally because of the economy.”

A new Smashburger, a retro-style burger joint from Denver, also will begin operation in the same building as Qdoba by April or May.

Tenant spaces are still available in Qdoba’s building. Developers and the town are working to get them leased.
