Walk for Vanessa
The good folks at Avon Elementary School are playing host to a Walk-O-Thon to raise money for Vanessa Almanca, an AES first grader who needs to have her kidney removed. Join them at Nottingham Lake, 1 p.m., Friday. They’re trying to raise $18,000. With your help they’ll make the goal, and Vanessa will get to live happily ever after.

Second City laughs on
The Second City, Chicago’s legendary comedy theater returns to Leadville at 7 p.m. Monday at the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum Convention Center. The Second City has been funny for more than 40 years, creating on-the-spot, topical comedy that changes with every performance.
Founded in 1959, The Second City has become the premier training ground for the comedy world’s best and brightest. Their alumni list reads like a who’s who of American comedy, including: Mike Nichols, Elaine May, Alan Arkin, Joan Rivers, Robert Klein, Peter Boyle, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd,
Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, George Wendt, Martin Short, John Candy, Shelley
Long, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Tina Fey, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Ryan Stiles
and countless others.
Tickets for The Second City are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Advance tickets are available from the Cloud City Coffee House, The Memory Maker, High Country Glass and Frame, or at CMC (see Candy Chant).

n The Eagle River Youth Coalition received a grant for $500 from the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado. The grant will support youth led research into the local causes of depression and thoughts of suicide for Eagle County youth. The Eagle River Youth Coalition represents youth serving organizations in Eagle County.
Starlight Snowshoe
The 10th annual Bravo! by Starlight Snowshoe and Cross-Country Ski Event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday at the Vail Nordic Center. You can choose a 3K snowshoe or a 5K cross-country ski race. They’re timed, but feel free to stroll. The course will be illuminated with glow sticks, the full moon and the starlit sky. The top finishers receive tickets to Bravo!
