Walker Williams performs at 4 Eagle Ranch Thursday
WOLCOTT, Colorado –Longtime Colorado musician Walker Williams will perform Thursday night at 4 Eagle Ranch.
The ranch has been hosting country western dance nights on the first Thursday of every month for the past few months, said Tom Backhus, the owner of 4 Eagle Ranch.
“The first three dance nights we had local bands but the dancers kept talking about Walker Williams,” Backhus said. “They all spoke so highly of him so I thought we’d give it a try.”
Williams happened to have the evening open and will be performing at the ranch Thursday from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $15 and available at the door.
Williams was introduced to country music at an early age. His father taught him to sing and play guitar at age six.
In 1991, Walker formed The Walker Williams Band. Within the first year, he played some of the better clubs in the Denver Metro area, including the Grizzly Rose, where he now holds status as “house band.”
By the second year, Walker was sharing the stage with country’s best, opening shows for such headliners as Willie Nelson, Billy Dean, Sawyer Brown, Alan Jackson and Merle Haggard, and began spreading his touring circles into New Mexico, Arizona and Wyoming.
Since then, Walker produced and released his debut CD in 1995, titled “Just Like That.” Walker fulfilled a dream to go into Nashville and record a new album with some of the city’s best studio musicians, songwriters and with Clayton Ryder as producer. The newest CD, simply titled “Walker Williams” was released in 2005.
“I didn’t start out to be a road band,” Walker said. “But now I find that I enjoy traveling more and meeting new people. I just hope they enjoy my music as much as I enjoy performing it for them.”
Walker and his band cater to the dance crowds, performing selections from Walker’s own CDs, two of which he wrote, covers of popular country songs by other artists, country-rockers and the occasional surprise tune from a variety of music styles.
