Wanted man arrested when he asks cop for a ride in Edwards
EDWARDS — If you flag down a ride from a police officer, make sure you’re not wanted.
Eagle County Sheriff’s Deputy Ivette Rosales was patrolling one clear night, just before 1 o’clock in the morning when she happened upon a red Jetta, pulled over with a flat tire on the eastbound I-70 shoulder near Edwards.
Three guys were standing around staring at it like guys will sometimes do when they’re fascinated by work, but don’t really want to do it.
Deputy Rosales pulled over and Flat Tire Man asked for a ride, saying he wanted to get to the Edwards rest area where a vehicle was parked that had the tools he needed.
Rosales said, “sure,” or something like it, and got on the Big Cop Radio to make sure the three were more or less okey dokey.
Two out of three isn’t bad and came back clean, but Flat Tire Man came back with a serious string of traffic infractions and a warrant for failing to appear in court.
Flat Tire Man was arrested, given a free ride to the Eagle County Crossbar Hotel. He did go see the judge, who was thrilled to make his acquaintance.
