EAGLE ” Less than a week after the arrest of a registered sex offender for harassment in Eagle County, a man who failed to register on the list is wanted by county authorities.

Eagle County Sheriff’s deputies hold a warrant for the arrest of Charles W. White, 43, of El Jebel. White failed to register as a sex offender in Eagle County after fleeing Utah while on parole for forcible sexual abuse.

By law, White is required to register with the county.

He is wanted in Utah for violating parole, Utah correctional officials said. They said he did not return to a halfway house in March for an evaluation.

The sheriff’s office learned from an anonymous woman on Aug. 10 that a sex offender was living at the El Jebel Mobile Park. Later that day, deputies confirmed with the park manager that White lived in the area.

Deputies failed to locate White on Tuesday at the park. He is believed to have fled the trailer in which he was living.

“Generally people like that don’t let the postmaster know where they’re going,” said Kim Andree, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.

Another sex offender, Rifle resident Loy Vondette, was arrested Aug. 4 in Eagle on suspicion of harassment. Rifle police later learned that on July 30, he allegedly attempted to coax two young girls into his car. He was arrested in Garfield County on Aug. 10 for the incident.

White is described on the Utah sex offender Web site as Caucasian, 6-feet tall, 180 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. The site shows he committed forcible sex abuse.

White also has an extensive criminal record including multiple assaults and possession of firearms, a sheriff’s report shows.

“If [the community] does see him we don’t want people to approach him,” Andree said. “What we want people to do is call us.”

People who spot White should call 911. Those with information that could lead to the arrest of White should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 962-8477.

Failure to register as a sex offender is a felony punishable by a maximum of two years in prison and a $100,000 fine.
