Ward Churchill asks to be reinstated at CU
BOULDER, Colo. ” Former University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill filed a reinstatement motion Friday, asking a judge to uphold the “constitutionally preferred remedy” of giving him his job back.
The university, which has stated that it will “vigorously challenge” Churchill’s reinstatement, has 15 days to respond.
Chief Denver District Judge Larry Naves, who has not yet set a hearing date, will decide whether Churchill gets his job back at CU or gets a financial settlement instead.
“This motion for reinstatement respectfully requests that this court abate the chilling effect caused by defendant’s unlawful punishment of Professor Churchill’s political speech, and reinforce the importance of academic freedom in our country, by reinstating Professor Churchill to his fully tenured position at the University of Colorado,” the motion reads.
