Watch for Triple Bypass cyclists in Avon on Saturday
July 8, 2010
EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado – The Colorado Department of Transportation is advising drivers to be prepared for about 3,500 bicyclists on Interstate 70 near the Eisenhower Tunnel on Saturday.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Triple Bypass Bicycle Tour will be using the shoulder of westbound I-70 for approximately five miles, from Bakerville (west of Georgetown) to the U.S. 6/Loveland Pass turnoff.
Since bicyclists will be traveling over Loveland Pass, the highway will be closed to all commercial traffic between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., requiring all large trucks to use the Eisenhower Tunnel during that time period.
In addition to I-70 and U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass, drivers should be prepared to share the road with bicyclists riding the tour along other state highway segments from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, including State Highway 103 west from Bergen Park to Idaho Springs and U.S. 6 west from Dowd Junction to Avon.
