Waterwise Wednesday examines Vail Pass traction sand
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL VALLEY, Colorado – Where does all that traction sand on Vail Pass go? That question will be answered by the Colorado Department of Transportation at the next Waterwise Wednesday session, which is 5:30 p.m., Wednesday at the Avon Public Library.
The transportation agency has made an effort over the past 15 years to pick up the material that they use during the winter months. Representatives will explain how and why removing traction sand from the spring runoff is important to Black Gore Creek and the environment.
Additionally, representatives will discuss winter maintenance operations on Vail Pass and Interstate 70, including staffing, equipment, material usage and their avalanche control program.
Refreshments will be provided beginning at 5 p.m. Waterwise Wednesday is sponsored by the Eagle River Watershed Council.
