WECMRD receives collaboration award
Vail, CO Colorado
GYPSUM, Colorado – The Western Eagle County Metro Recreation District received the 2012 Award for Collaboration from the Special District Association of Colorado at the state conference in Keystone. WECMRD was recognized for exceptional outreach and cooperation in leading the 911 Remembrance Event at Freedom Park in 2011.
The district worked with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, U.S. Air Force, Boy Scouts of America, Eagle County and first responder units from Vail, Avon, Edwards, Eagle and Gypsum in producing the inaugural event. The 911 Remembrance Event drew hundreds of spectators who witnessed a fly-over by F-16s, performances by the Air Force Academy Color Guard, speeches by local and state officials and recognition of the first responders throughout the valley. Over 3,000 American flags were placed around the lake at Freedom Park and a piece of the Pentagon was placed for permanent display at the park.
The Special District Association includes over 1,300 member districts throughout Colorado. WECMRD received the Collaboration Award for the second consecutive year.
The Austin family has always believed in supporting their community through food education, which is why it was an easy decision for them to begin partnering with The Community Market, a local hunger relief project, to improve access to local produce for low-income individuals in Eagle County.
