VAIL — Art in Public Places is pleased to kick-off summer programming this week with the popular free Wednesday Art Walks. Meet each Wednesday at 11 a.m. June 18 through Aug. 27 at the Vail Village Welcome Center on the top level of the parking structure for an hour long guided tour of Vail Village and the public art collection. After an introduction to the Colorado Ski & Snowboard Museum, the tour winds its way through the Village with discussions of the history of the Vail Valley, the founding of Vail Mountain, the master planning of the Village, and the importance of site-specific art. The town’s public art collection includes 45 works ranging from painting, sculptures, murals, playground components, to site-integrated art.

A new fully color printed map of the town of Vail’s public art collection is now available at the Vail Village and Lionshead Welcome Centers. Featuring 36 works of art in a walkable map of Vail Village and Lionshead, as well as the art beyond town center, the map is a good resource for enjoying Vail’s abundance of public art. Over 30 works of art in the town of Vail’s growing collection are created by Colorado artists.
