VAIL, Colorado – Vail’s Sarah Schleper wants to ski in her fourth Winter Olympics early next year, and her family is trying to help her get there.

Shleper’s dad, Buzz, has owned Buzz’s Ski Shop in Vail Village since roughly forever, and is, of course, his kids’ biggest supporter. That support continues this weekend, with a big ski and snowboard equipment swap at Buzz’s.

The swap will include equipment from Buzz’s, of course, as well as a pair of other Vail shops, the Double Diamond and Ski Base, and Diva’s, a shop in Boulder. A portion of the proceeds from the weekend will go toward helping Sarah race this season.

“We figured she needs about $40,000 to get through the winter,” Buzz Schleper said. “Hopefully we can raise a few thousand this weekend.”

While sponsorships support most skiers to some extent, Schleper said that money, like most money, is harder to come by these days. That means a lot of skiers are looking harder for ways to support their careers.

And, Schleper said, his daughter’s career is still worth supporting, even at age 30.

“She’s had an excellent training season,” Schleper said. “She’s stronger than ever, and really wants to bring home an Olympic medal, and maybe a few World Cup podiums.”

Besides helping a local skier, the people who shop at this weekend’s event will also be spending their money with local businesses, Schleper said. Diva’s isn’t located in Vail, of course, but Schleper said the owners have a place in Vail. Besides, they’re fans of Sarah.

“You’ll get quality equipment, great service, and you know the owners will stand behind their products,” Schleper said.
