Special to the DailyCanadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman performs with the New York Philharmonic Friday.

VAIL ” The New York Philharmonic returns for its fifth year of residency at Bravo! Vail from July 20th through July 27th at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater. Opening night of the New York Philharmonic will be July 20th at 6:00 p.m., under the direction of Sir Andrew Davis, and will feature Canadian soprano, Measha Brueggergosman.

The opening concert will feature Strauss’ “Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks,” Mussorgsky’s arrangement for orchestra of Ravel’s “Pictures at an Exhibition,” along with a selection of favorite opera arias of Puccini, Massenet, Catalani and Weber.

Leading the orchestra will be Sir Andrew Davis, music director of the Lyric Opera of Chicago as well as the artistic director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Maestro Davis is conductor laureate of the Toronto Symphony and the BBC Symphony, and he served as the former music director of the Glyndebourne Festival Opera. He has conducted the Chicago Symphony, the Berlin Philharmonic and worked at the Metropolitan Opera and Bayreuth Festspielhaus.

This season alone, Measha Brueggergosman has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic and the Orchestra and Chorus of Teatro alla Scala among others. After winning a slew of prizes, including the Jeunesses Musicals Montreal International, the George London Prize and the Queen Sonja International Music Competition, Brueggergosman is in great demand as both an opera and concert artist.
