We’re stepping up

As Americans endure this economic downturn, making a new vehicle purchase is probably the last thing on their minds. Why would they purchase a vehicle if they think their jobs might be in jeopardy during the coming months? How would they cover their vehicle payment while they look for a new job? Ford Motor Co. just released a new plan this week that may relieve some of this uncertainty.

Ford’s plan aims to give piece of mind to potential buyers who might be afraid to buy a car when layoffs are happening. If a buyer loses their job, the Ford Advantage Plan will pay up to $700 of a Ford buyer’s vehicle payments for 12 months on vehicles purchased before June 1. The plan will also give unemployed purchasers the opportunity to keep their vehicle while being covered by this payment protection plan.

Ford also understands that credit is tight right now, and is offering zero percent financing options from Ford Motor Credit on select new Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles.

Congress has passed legislation whereby consumers can, also, deduct the sales tax on their new purchases until the end of the year.

In addition Congress is contemplating and we are supporting a “Cash for Clunkers” bill to improve the environment and stimulate vehicle sales. It probably will be more correctly known as the Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save (CARS) Act and consumers would be provided with financial incentives to swap an older vehicle for a new, more fuel-efficient car or truck.

This bill would release pent-up demand for new cars, providing needed support to the auto industry and, in turn, retaining a critical American industrial base tied to thousands of American jobs. The consumer wins with a more environmentally-, friendly vehicle that is safer and more reliable.

It is important to know that Ford’s quality is now unsurpassed in the industry, that Ford is moving rapidly forward with green technology, while Ford continues to lead in safety, and smart technology is found in all of our vehicle lines. All of this in conjunction with the buyer protection while not taking emergency taxpayer assistance sets Ford Motor Co. apart in the marketplace.

The persistence and resilience of Americans is what has gotten us through tough times before and Ford is making it easier for today’s consumer by coming up with innovative and efficient cost-saving ideas.
