West studied for solar-energy potential
DENVER, Colorado ” The federal government is launching a broad-scale environmental analysis of solar energy projects on public land in six Western states.
The review will explore potential environmental, economic and social impacts of the projects in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah.
The BLM will focus on 125 applications already submitted as it prepares the environmental impact statement. The Department of Energy will also work on the analysis.
The agencies will establish a process for accepting future applications. They’re taking public comments through July 7 and plan public meetings in each of the states, starting June 16 in Riverside, Calif.
