Twenty years ago, a band out of Seattle released an album that changed the music industry and the future of rock ‘n’ roll forever. Nirvana’s “Nevermind” sold millions of copies, and numerous critics contend it’s one of the finest albums of all time. Do you agree? Better yet are there any albums released this year that compare to the game changer that was “Nevermind”? Or even still, do you ever tire of all these critics who make these proclamations every year in their “best of” lists? Can you do better?

That’s what KZYR and Gore Range Brewery are asking you. They are saying never mind what the critics say, they want to know what the Vail Valley’s true residents think. This year, the Gore Range Brewery is hosting an end-of-the-year album celebration for the best of 2011. In conjunction with True Local Radio KZYR 97.7 FM, they are launching the first-ever listener poll to determine the 2011 Album of the Year, as selected by valley residents.

All are invited to vote for the top five albums of the year at the KZYR website, KZYR.com. To encourage listeners, there are prizes: First place wins an iPad preloaded with top 10 albums of the year; second place receives a free membership into the Gore Range Brewery Mug Club ($150 value), and third place receives a $50 iTunes certificate.

Is it Adele’s major breakthrough or the subtle, but less popular, Tedeschi Trucks Band’s first release? Are you more inclined to prefer Red Hot Chili Peppers to Paul Simon? And is either one’s release worthy of the lofty title of Album of the Year? Now’s your chance to have your opinion heard. All are welcome to vote at KZYR.com. Voting is open from now until midnight Dec. 27.

The final Top 10 countdown will be broadcast on the air, and there will be a party at The Gore Range Brewery in Edwards on Dec. 29 starting at 5 p.m. All are welcome to come to the announcement party, which will include gifts. Party attendees will be given raffle tickets at the door. At 6 p.m. KZYR will begin a reverse drawing. As numbers are picked, participants will be eliminated.
