What energy medicine can do for you

We are our own healers.

Our high tech, stressed out lifestyles has thrust many of us into chronic physical, emotional and spiritual depletion. We suffer from overload. Most of us tolerate tired, joyless states as normal. What good does it do to tell someone to get more sleep if you haven’t shown them how to relax?

Energy medicine views our bodies and spirits as manifestations of subtle energy or life force. It focuses on the importance of balancing our body and spirit to prevent disease. This is missed in mainstream health care but it is becoming more accepted and recognized.

Energy medicine asks us to look within. There are many alternative practitioners who treat the whole person with energy medicine. There are acupuncturists, kinesiologists, homeopaths, chiropractors, Reiki masters and masseuses. There are those who help with diet, food supplements like vitamins and minerals and exercise and health maintenance programs. There are those interested in shamanism and other ancient forms of healing. And, there is spiritual healing.

Energy medicine works in conjunction with a person’s commitment of coming to terms with light and dark forces shaping them, and excludes nothing. It is total healing with compassion. The most important thing to remember about healing methods is that there is no one way to heal. There is only one that is best for you and that is the one that works for you.

Participate in The Longevity Project

The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.

As in any form of healing or practice, seek out those with the most experience. You will benefit more and learn more from one who has years of experience than someone who learned from a book. Like any healing profession, education and experience has its place. An experienced energy worker will teach you how to help yourself. Where there is experience, there is ” hopefully ” the best intention and capability for your healing.

Don’t be afraid to ask a practitioner what they do for their personal practice, how long they have done what they will be doing with you and what they will be teaching you to do for yourself. If you are seeking out someone to do ear candling, find someone who has years of experience. If you are seeking out Reiki, find someone who is a Reiki master and has years of experience. If you are seeking out spiritual counseling, find someone who knows what spiritual counseling is and has years of experience. If you are seeking out an acupuncturist, find one who is licensed and experienced. This will help you feel safe and open to allowing this person to guide and work with your inner most pain, life situation or illness.

Don’t hand over your healing to just anyone, take charge and ask how you can participate. Ask the practitioner to teach you how to heal yourself, or at minimum, how to maintain your health. Ask them to teach you how to manage or balance the subtle energies that reside within. Energy medicine is not just reserved for “special” people, it is for everyone to experience and practice.

I predict (and hope) that within 20 years there will be complete integration of science and holistic healing that combines spirit, intuition and technology. When modern medicinem practitioners realize they cannot heal everything, especially the spirit, they will begin to use alternative healing methods. It has been shown that when patients are involved in their own healing, they heal faster.

Get involved with your body, mind and spirit. Healing can be done with compassion and grace. No matter what your life situation or your health, you can learn to feel better, to function better or to accept what is and live in grace and peace. That’s what energy medicine can do for you.
