What’s up with your heart?

Gary Wingo

Do you have a thankful heart? We’re about to celebrate Thanksgiving Day; it’s supposed to be a wonderful time with family and friends, remembering to give thanks. Are you grateful? When I read the newspaper or catch the TV news, all I hear are people complaining! You’d think we lived in a prison somewhere subsisting on bread and water, counting the days till we can break free! I am looking out my window right now watching the snow fall across the way. We’re getting ready for a great year on the slopes! We live in an incredible country – the greatest this planet has ever known. And humbly, I realize just how much I have to be thankful for:- I have a fantastic wife and great kids who love God- I have friends who stayed with me through thick and thin, never giving up on me in times of trouble- I am actually loved by the God of the Universe- I am forgiven, with my past is wiped clean- I am no longer a slave to past wounds, but free and made new each day because of Jesus Christ- I have my health, both physical and spiritualII Corinthians 5:17 says, “If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. The past is gone, the new has come. All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ.” I am actually reconciled personally to God! I am so thankful to have the Father who loves me outrageously, a loving, caring spouse, and children who like their dad! I live in God’s awesome creation. I am personally one of His masterpieces with these majestic peaks! I am alive like never before and just like the golden eagle I saw the other day, I get to soar on the heights with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ – who loves me and died for me so I could be free! And with all that, I get to live in the United States … where I can vote for who I want, ski when I want, laugh when I want, eat when I want, and express my faith whenever I want! Let’s put it into perspective. Where else on this planet can you have all these benefits? I’ve been around this world, and there no place, no person I’d rather be: a loved child of God, in the middle of Colorado, with a loving family, and a heart that’s free. So, what’s up with your heart? Stuck in the negative past or living free today? Join the free-hearts of the world and realize: “Praise the Lord, O my soul, and don’t forget God’s benefits … who forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases, who redeems my life from the pit and crowns me with love & compassion, who satisfies my desires with good things so the my youth is renewed like the eagles.” Psalm 103:2-5. Remember, you may eat turkey, but God enables you to soar free like an eagle!Vail, Colorado
