Whimsical wood burning in Breckenridge

Kim Nicolettiknicoletti@summitdaily.comBreckenridge CO, Colorado
Special to the DailyArtist Fritz Anders uses the woods natural patterns to create unique wood-burning pieces that will be on display at Art on a Whim this weekend in Breckenridge.

BRECKENRIDGE, Colorado The process: Using wood as his canvas, Fritz Anders uses natural wood patterns, knots and imperfections to determine the subject of each piece. He burns additional details and depth into the subject, then completes the work with mixed and thin layers of color stain and poly finishes. The artist: A Colorado local, Anders is an untrained artist who, though years of arts and crafts with his children, developed his unique style of wood burning. After a well-received first show in 2004, several art awards, local media coverage and gallery features, Anders quit his IT job in 2007 to create his artwork full time. The evolution: My work is constantly growing and improving, Anders said. Im planning to complete some really spectacular pieces this year and share my work with a broader audience. The fun side: Anders enjoys adding a whimsical side to many of his works. More than just a picture, something is always happening. He exposes the humorous moments, dilemmas and thoughts from the daily lives of our animal friends, some with unpredictable conclusions. Titles are carefully chosen to reflect the story behind each picture, and many incorporate well- known sayings, titles or phrases. His work will surely make you smile. What his fans say: Your artwork it is absolutely wonderful and amazing Dianna Hall (customer), Wichita, KSI cannot tell you how THRILLED I am! I absolutely LOVE it!
